New Evidence Of 2048×1536 iPad Retina Display

New evidence this week points to a future version of the iPad to feature Apple’s Retina display with a resolution of 2048×1536. At this resolution, this rumored display is double the pixels of that on the iPad 2.

A few months ago, various images hit the web that showed app icons double their normal size that they would normally be for a 1024×768 display (the current iPad). At the time, this suggested that Apple was possibly moving into a newer display for the iPad 2. Unfortunately, once the iPad 2 launched it was the same display as the original iPad.

The new resolution evidence is reported by Techunwrapped and the specific find is the Twitter.framework within the iOS SDK shows much larger images than is needed for the current iPad display.

Techunwrapped speculated that because the larger images were included in the Twitter section of the iOS SDK, a feature that is now imbedded system-wide in iOS, this means that iPad 3 could be released alongside, or at least around, the launch of iOS 5.

iPad 2 Jailbreak Possibly Coming via JailbreakMe.com Exploit

iPhone hacker @comex has tweeted this afternoon a cryptic teaser, hinting at a possible jailbreak coming for the iPad 2 and iOS 5.

For those who have never tried a JailbreakMe.com jailbreak, it exploits Mobile Safari allowing for the easiest and fastest jailbreak ever, and was available for iPad users on iOS 3.2.1. The downside is the loop holes are usually fixed easily by Apple, so it would make sense for @comex to release a potential jailbreak after iOS 5 final this Fall.

Check out the following image you’ll see when you visit JailbreakMe.com:

It appears the exploit is related to PDF files somehow. Stay tuned, as we’ll be sure to post more details if they arise.

With the beta release of iOS 5, I personally have no need to jailbreak my iPad 2.

How to Enable AirPlay Mirroring on iPad 2 on iOS 5

One of the announced features of iOS 5 at the WWDC 2011 keynote was AirPlay Mirroring. Apple didn’t demonstrate this, but essentially this feature will stream your iPad’s homescreen to your Apple TV 2–wirelessly.

Here’s how to setup AirPlay Mirroring:

1. Install iOS 5 on both your iPad 2 and Apple TV 2 (developer account required).

2. Turn on your Apple TV 2. Double tap the Home button on your iPad 2, and swipe to the right (where the volume/brightness controls are).

3. Tap the AirPlay icon, and select your Apple TV. A toggle will appear for “Mirroring”. Turn this ON, and magically your iPad’s homescreen will now be streaming to your Apple TV 2 wirelessly!

Notice the status bar becomes blue at the top of your iPad to indicate AirPlay Mirroring is active, along with the AirPlay icon:

There is barely any lag, and this feature works amazingly well. If you have a widescreen TV, you’ll notice black bars at the sides due to the iPads 4:3 ratio. Nonetheless, this is one cool feature!
